After the disappointment of its 2024 cancellation, Groovin The Moo (GTM) has confirmed that the festival will not be returning in 2025. The news was shared via the festival’s official social media channels, with organisers acknowledging the ongoing challenges of low ticket sales and production costs. GTM’s post expressed their sadness, stating, “We will really miss seeing the smiling faces of all our beloved Moo Crew,” while hinting at efforts to explore a more sustainable model for the future of the event.
GTM, once a staple of the Australian festival circuit, has long been beloved for its regional touring, bringing live music to audiences outside major cities. Previous performers such as Boy & Bear, What So Not, and Ocean Alley voiced their support in the comments, reflecting the festival’s lasting impact on the Australian music scene.
The Australian Festival Association (AFA) has also weighed in, emphasizing the crucial role regional festivals like GTM play in supporting local economies, artists, and festival workers. They have called for increased government funding to ensure the survival of these events, which continue to face rising production costs. Despite GTM’s absence, other festivals like Laneway and Good Things are thriving, offering a glimmer of hope for the future.
